FAQ

Here you find answers to questions that I never got asked, but which answers you might still find interesting. Some ranting about Free Software and other stuff is also included.

Since when do you use GNU/Linux?
Last update: [Up]

My first contact with GNU/Linux was around 1997/1998. Since around 1999 I use GNU/Linux as my main OS. Beside some gaming I don't use Windows. I use GNU/Linux mainly because it works for me and because its Free Software, not so much because its the greatest OS ever, which it isn't it at the moment and probally will not in the near future.

Do you think all Software should be Open Source/Free Software?
Last update: [Up]

Yes, simply because I hate crippled hardware and software. Ever used a software and wished for a simple feature that simply wasn't there? Free Software gives you the freedom to add it. Sure, in most cases you might not want to do it, because its just so too much work and often proprietary software actually works better than the Free Software alternatives, but still I don't really like it when proprietary software doesn't do the job or simply gets discontinued, without myself being able to do anything about it.

In what projects are you involved?
Last update: [Up]

The project page contains a list of projects that I have or still are involved too, most of them are game projects and most of them are started by myself.

But couldn't you make much more money with closed source software?
Last update: [Up]

Yes, probally, but I don't care to much about money, as long as I have enough to make a living, I am happy. I don't need to drive a Ferrari. Anyway, if you want to donate money to me, you can do so, just follow the paypal link on the left.

What languages do you speak?
Last update: [Up]

I am a nativ german speaker and also speak more or less english, so if you want to talk to me both german and english will do.

Why release games as Free Software instead of closed source?
Last update: [Up]

Because I can. I don't see much use in keeping stuff secret. Sure in most cases there will be nobody out there who can make use of the source, but why should I hide it? Maybe there is somebody out there who can make use of it, so why should I stop him?
